Social Justice and Peace Club

*COMMUNITY THROUGH ACTION AND PASSION*

Our Mission

The Mission of the Social Justice Club is to:

  • Ignite passion in others to learn about social justice issues and to challenge mainstream thinking.
  • Encourage positive social change through action and education.
  • Celebrate diversity and community

Our Vision

The vision of the Social Justice and Peace Club is to bring together the students and faculty  of Kings University College. On a broader scale, we would like to see our local community come together as one; working together on behalf of the disadvantaged, to challenge both local and international injustices. We want to use our education as a tool for change, to spread awareness, to ignite a passion, and to act.

Click on the following links:

Community: Individuals and organizations in the neighbourhood linked through networks of affective and instrumental connections; an interacting population of various individuals in a common location

Action: Organized activity to accomplish an objective

Passion: Boundless enthusiasm; deep and positive emotion; fervent expression of hope; belief in the essential connection of individual and community; and love of humanity. Passion, like altruism, is essential to the action of giving and the purpose of philanthropy.

With a new executive, structure, and passion we hope that the SJP Club's vision and involvement reaches far beyond the Kings Community. We are a team of students dedicated to challenging injustice and raising awareness within uwo and the London community at large.

The agenda for the Social Justice Club is created under the direction of the Executive Committee and of course our members! We ask that you provide us with any ideas, suggestions or concerns at any point during the year.

We encourage students at all levels and in all programs to take part in the events we have planned for the up-coming school year. Such events include: protests, the speakers series, campaigns on campus, fundraising, walks to raise awareness, movie nights, information sessions, discussion nights and so much more!!  Members are encouraged to take part in the Social Justice Club in any way that is comfortable, as a participant, observer or an organizer.  We are a student led club and we are committed to using our education to bring about positive social change.  We hope that we can be effective in these tasks and we ask for your support.  If you are interested in learning more about becoming a member click the Getting Involved tab in the menu. For general inquiries please email the club at sjpclub@kucsc.com.

There is a theory that says if a butterfly flaps its wings in one part of the world, for example in South Africa, the air disturbance caused by that one flap has enough force to trigger a storm somewhere else in the world a month later, for instance, in Nunavut, Canada. If that is the case, imagine what power your ideas and actions can have to help improve the quality of life for people around the world.
